About Dr. Jessica Evelson
I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I attended Medical School at Universidad Maimonides. During medical school I realized that many times patients were referred to as an illness rather than as an individual suffering from an illness. It was very important for me to choose a speciality that would allow me to connect with my patients as a whole. I was interested in the mind and the body therefore I knew psychiatry was the right choice.
Soon after graduating from medical school in 2002, I moved to NYC where I completed my Adult Psychiatry Residency at Maimonides Medical Center. After finishing my residency I pursued a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Westchester Medical Center, NY where I also served as Chief Fellow. My training made me value diversity and helped me recognize how our differences (race, gender, religion, etc.) affect our experiences.
In 2012 I relocated to Florida. Since living here I have been working at a large group practice treating children, adolescents and adults with a diversity of disorders. I have also served as clinical supervisor to psychiatry residents and medical students.
My treatment approach involves making a comprehensive diagnostic assessment and developing a collaborative treatment plan with my patients that utilize the best available evidence-based practices. This may involve a combination of psychotherapy, medication management, or other approaches.
While not working I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love exercising since I believe this is essential for our physical and mental wellbeing. I love to travel, learn about different cultures and try new foods. Interior design is also one of the things I love and I’m most passionate about.
Being a parent of two beautiful children in addition to my expertise in child and adolescent psychiatry, helps me stay humble, as I know the challenges parenting brings. I would say I have an empathetic demeanor and consider myself down to earth, caring and kind. I love what I do, caring for my patients, achieving a therapeutic alliance and working as a team. By doing so I’m confident we can achieve the best possible outcomes. Being able to see my patients grow and progress in life is my goal.
